While I really enjoyed Equity, it was time to move on, and I made the move to the Screen Actors Guild.
The building where I worked as it looks today. The main difference is that SAG and AFTRA had not merged yet while I was there. And that banner for the La Brea Tar Pits was because they were right next door, and a great place to carefully walk during lunch (you had to avoid stepping in seeping tar.)
The 2000 Commercial Strike was SAG’s longest strike (they joined forces with AFTRA). Because I had put on events when I was doing industrials with our now shuttered company Theatrix, they ask me to get involved in coordinating live events on the West Coast. I got to work with a lot of great name actors who were out on the picket line at events essentially fighting for the rights of their fellow actors who did not have the power they had to demand a decent pay check.
